Asarco asks judge to accept settlement

September 30, 2007 -- Asarco LLC filed a motion in bankruptcy court Friday asking a judge to accept a settlement of $13,280,780 with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and $419,200 with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, for past costs associated with the clean-up of lead and arsenic in the yards of several West and Central El Paso homes.
The EPA and the TCEQ had asked for $19.7 million from Asarco, which was named by the two entities as a potentially responsible party for the contamination, a news release from Asarco stated.
