This is an EPA map showing the results of soil samples taken from 2001 -2003. The red dots are contaminated properties containing hazardous levels of lead (above 500 parts per million or ppm) or arsenic (above 46 ppm) or both. The green dots are below the established standards. This map clearly shows the highest levels of contamination to be within a three mile radius of the ASARCO smelter. On the Mexico side of the border, no similar sampling has been undertaken to date. It is important to note that the GTLO Coalition believes the sampling effort is inadequate to truly determine the extent of the pollution resulting from ASARCO's emissions.
